Best of 2012, according to me (Retro Post)

This is old. But I wrote it back in December and never published it, so now it's 'retro'.  Give it a pass if you like, no hockey talk here.

2012

They made a movie about it once.  #53 in the Cusackathon movie parade.  So, because the title Best of 2012 (according to me) is pretty self-explanatory.

Song - Walk Off The Earth's cover of Goyte's Somebody I Used to Know got to me this year, which is funny that i heard their version before i heard the original version.

Viral Video -  First, i'm not a big viral video guy.  I've never watched Gangham Style, Justin Beiber or Carly Rae Jepsen or anybody lip syncing to their songs on Youtube, although apparently there were millions of people that did.  I don't know how i missed out on these videos.  Maybe it's because in the end; they are all professionally produced music videos.  So woop dee doo, somebody knows how to work some editing software.  As for all the hits these videos are getting?  Call me paranoid but seeing as how these three are all managed by the same guy (Scooter Braun), it's almost like he has some type of program that automatically repeats itself over and over, just because of some great reason that i am sure does not involve a popularity contest. Instead, my choice of viral video goes to;

  If you didn't choke up a bit at that, you're probably a bit of a jerk in real-life.

Worst News Reporting; You know when you have that feeling everyone around you has been taking Stupid Pills?  I had that feeling when i heard that a riot in Libya, which wound up killing the American ambassador there was due to a anti-muslim D-movie called somethingsomethingsomething.  Seriously, news world?  A badly made movie made in California was seen by so many people a world away that it got them so angry they needed to shed American blood just so they could express how bad this movie was?  Had they never heard of Rotten Tomatoes?  Of course, that was just the beginning of Shit Mountain, and in the weeks that followed, after the producer/director was arrested for some tax evasion shit, the story faded off, just as my memory of what the thing was called.  But hey: 'mericuh!

Best Movie - The Avengers   There were a couple movies i enjoyed this year, both happen to involve Joss Whedon.  Cabin in the Woods provided a great twist on an otherwise pretty stale genre and The Avengers provided the best ensemble superhero movie since X-Men and better CGI to boot.  The only part that bothered me was that i was used to the 80's Hawkeye costume, so to see him without his trademark 'wolverine-esque' purple mask threw me a little bit but easily for me at the top of the list, the complete opposite of the thing sitting in the shitter at the bottom; The Dark Knight Rises.

Book - Face. Followed by .... man, i don't know. Read a lot, none jumped out at me like the way Outliers did in 2011.

Person - Amanda Todd
runner-up;  George Takei.  He has taken Facebook by storm and has left gay rainbows in his wake.  His posts are mostly humorous, with the touch of self-promotion and good will thrown in.  He's like everybody's cool grampa once the other cool grampa (William Shatner) has left the building.

TV show - Game of Thrones.  I know I am a couple years late on the GoT bandwagon however that makes it so much better in that i got to catch up on two seasons in roughly two months.  Yes, it's a soap opera.  Yes, there is always a suggestion that something's going to happen soon when nothing really does and yes, i can't believe that nobody has killed that punk King Joffrey yet in some classic 'he fell down the stairs' move.  Now with Winter truly getting nearer, here's hoping it can maintain it's consistent frustrating storylines.
