I'm Getting Old - Politics and Wordy Words

Or... [Why Am I Talking Politics? - I don't...know]

Canada's #1 entertainment export, owned by America.
First, let me say I say I believe in Evolution; not just in the Darwinian sense but in the Opinionated Matters Sense. People are born to form opinions and if we are lucky, we are given the ability to evolve those opinions into other opinions. Then those opinions evolve into other opinions. The same goes with Values, Morals, Codes of Conduct, Religion, Politics, Cheating.

At its most base level at one time we all thought it was okay to pick our nose whenever we felt like it; hopefully that time was in elementary school. Then as we grew social ostracizing made us evolve our opinion that it was best to pick one's nose discreetly. Then it evolved again into 'just around family' until we get so old we just say 'fuck it, I'll pick my nose where ever the damn hell I want to.'.

That said, I've been a Canadian Conservative supporter for over a decade - primarily for their focus on Western Provinces in their early years; Preston Manning (great name) was a solid person in those early years and I respected that. I respected the party, laughed at the Conservative Reform Alliance Party (CRAP for short) and that they were the underdog for many years trying to unhook the claws of Liberal dominance in the Canadian Parliament.

But things change, people and opinions evolve. I've been having lots of issues with the way the government has been run since the Conservatives have gained majority power; our nationality is being sold and chipped away through the guise of 'foreign investment'. Our major natural resources are being plundered by other nations with minimal investment in Canada as a country. Privacy issues, the attempt of rebranding Canada as a military power on the national stage and of course, the direction we are taking in persecuting non-Christian based religions both inside our borders and overseas is well...making my opinions evolve into what I want my Canada to be come next election.

This is a piece of propaganda posted by a Conservative Wannabe MP. It reads indicatively of why my opinion is evolving from pro-con to pro-next party please. It's a small speech but to me, representative of a government that is no longer acting in the best interests of Canadians. There is no pledge to national ownership and patriotism but a hastily assembled dubious claims made up by a speechwriter who seems to have a generic template on his Microsoft Office software for these occasions.

Quick Facts

Canadian businesses are the backbone of the Canadian economy, generating jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity [hyperbole - speeches 101 - always start a speech with something your audience wants to hear]. That is why our Government is ensuring that they have the tools and opportunities they need to remain globally competitive, prosperous and successful.
The Canada-European Union Trade Agreement is by far the most ambitious trade agreement that Canada has ever reached, covering most aspects of the Canada-European Union (EU) bilateral economic relationship, including trade in goods and services, investment, and government procurement. It also grants the flexibility to include areas of mutual interest beyond those that have traditionally been included in Canada's trade agreements, such as regulatory cooperation. The EU is the world’s largest integrated economy, with more than 500 million consumers and an annual GDP of $18 trillion.

A joint study conducted with the EU concluded that the Canada-European Union Trade Agreement could boost Canada’s income by $12 billion annually and bilateral trade by 20 per cent, which will create tens of thousands of new jobs [notice the word 'could' - in this context it means it's not going to create the following facts I state but that doesn't sound as good].

Ontario stands to benefit significantly from this preferred access to the EU market. The EU is already Ontario’s second-largest export destination and trading partner [US being #1 - so the EU is 2nd pretty much by default - this is another simple fact that could have come out of a elementary school report]. When the Canada-European Union Trade Agreement comes into force, it will eliminate tariffs on almost all of Ontario’s key exports and provide access to new market opportunities in the EU. Exporters in these sectors will also benefit from other provisions that will improve conditions for export provisions.
As Canada’s largest city – approximately 5.5 million in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) – and a hub of national manufacturing activity, Toronto stands to benefit enormously from the Canada-EU Trade Agreement [remember this is in Mississauga, de facto Toronto, again saying what your audience wants to hear]. The sectors that will benefit the most in the GTA include manufacturing, professional, scientific and technical services. Toronto families will also benefit from greater access to European goods at lower costs given 98 per cent of EU tariff lines will be removed immediately upon implementation of this agreement [key word here is 'costs'. So while a product may be 'cheaper' to import will that guarantee that the seller will mark down their price or would you keep it at status quo? Point 2 - what is the EU's key marketable exports to Toronto families - strangely - energy drinks (43%) and luxury vehicles (42%)].
Manufacturing, professional, scientific and technical services account for an estimated 23 per cent of the share of overall employment in the GTA. Manufacturing industries that stand to benefit include food processing, automotive and machinery.

The Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement will provide Canadian businesses and workers with unprecedented access to the Republic of Korea, which has an annual GDP of $1.3 trillion and a population of 50 million people [Canadian businesses being foreign-owned lumber companies, LNG sources, and maple syrup]. When the Agreement is fully implemented, Korea will remove duties on 98.2 per cent of its tariff lines covering virtually all of Canada’s imports. The Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement is projected to increase exports by 32 per cent and boost the Canadian economy by $1.7 billion annually ['projected' is being used here the same as 'could'].

Ontario [for a political party with it's roots in the West, it sure is coming up rosy in Ontario] stands to benefit significantly from preferred access to the Korean market. The agreement will make Canadian exports more competitive in the Korean market by levelling the playing field for Ontario businesses that are competing against exporters from countries that already have preferential access [like China and Taiwan].

Since July 2009, employment in Canada has increased by over 1.1 million and is more than 675,000 above its pre-recession peak, resulting in one of the strongest job creation records in the G-7 over the recovery. Over 80% of all jobs created since July 2009 have been in full-time positions, roughly 80% are in the private sector, and over 65% are in high-wage industries. [If 2008 is considered the point of the world economic meltdown (a black president?!? Thanks, Obama] then taking the credit for its recovery is the same as a doctor taking credit for you recovering from the flu - it was going to happen anyways but sure, you can have this one.]

Quotes

“I was pleased to have the opportunity today to discuss the many measures that our Government is taking to support the Canadian economy, including expanding our trade with new markets around the world through free trade agreements such as the Canada-European Union Agreement and the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement. These significant steps demonstrate our commitment to giving Canadian businesses, investors and exporters the tools and opportunities they need to compete and win in the global marketplace while creating jobs and opportunities across our country.” – Prime Minister Stephen Harper

“Today’s meeting with various business representatives from the Greater Toronto Area provided an excellent opportunity to discuss how we can work together towards an even brighter economic future for Ontario and Canada.” – Prime Minister Stephen Harper

[no mention of the embarrassing stand Canada has taken against the concerns of global warming, no mention that the majority of foreign-owned businesses that are in the GTA, the profit that leaves the country to go into foreign investors and shareholders bank accounts, no mention of the low capital gains taxes for said foreign companies and above all, how these measures will improve the lot of Canada as a whole]
