The toughest Montreal Canadien in the past 10 years

So an odd thing happened at a Montreal hockey game this week...a Canadiens player stood up for himself.

Ryan White pulled a Dan Carcillo in last night's game against Buffalo and in particular Steve Ott, for what really was a pretty light hip check. My grandma has bumped into me harder than that. Yet Ryan White didn't get the memo about 'playing smart' and jumped Ott, resulting in a double minor and nearly cost Montreal the game. This was White's second trip onto the coach's shitlist in the last week for stupid penalties so I think he's going to be watching a few from the press box for the next week.

However, after this I began thinking of all the tough Montreal Canadians that have pummeled the crap out of opponents in the last decade. This is all that i could come up with;

taking on the last surviving ticket holder of the 2010 Atlanta Thrashers
That's Youppi, the Montreal mascot who was adopted after his previous foster parents, the Montreal Expos headed off to Washington. Here he is in action at the Forum;
And here he is in therapy dealing with the loss of his original parents;
I don't know who that guy is but judging from his complete lack of
confrontation, it could be any Canadien circa 2005-2012
So Ryan White has proven to be a bit of an anomo, anomanol, freak in recent years but in my opinion a welcome addition that brings an ounce of respect back into the organization after the last decade of ...whatever you want to call it... despite having Georges Laraques for a year or two and went on record about how Jacques Martin preferred to keep goons like him glued to the bench as a matter of 'cleaning up the game'. Nothing says 'not scary' like going up against the Habs and knowing Georges is barely staring at you from the bench all game. Even during the Carbonneau years, the top PIM leaders were Tom Kostopolous, Mike Komisarek and Saku Koivu. Yes, you read that right...Saku Koivu was once one of the top 3 PIM leaders of the Montreal Canadiens.

In honor or perhaps maybe in disgrace, I feel it is my duty to provide proof of just how tough the Canadiens once were, courtesy of Chris 'Knuckes' Nilan;

and Johnny Kordic;

On second viewings, that just shows how much Jay Miller of Boston had a death wish.  Let's just get to the team brawls instead;

And don't forget this Red Army game in 1990...

And finally, for a good friend, a video showing that John Kordic was just as crazy as Jay Miller. He decided to take on Wendel Clark and thankfully managed to get the lineman in the way before Wendel got angry. You don't want to make Wendel angry. You won't like him when he's angry.
That's enough old school hockey for tonight. I got shit to do.
